For the Star Wars fans out there, you see the obvious reference
to its famous hero and Han Solo's faithful sidekick, Chewbacca the Wookiee. Well,
that's the simple explanation of where "Wookie" (misspelled for legal
reasons) comes from.
"Luv," on the other hand, was really just a joke. It's a sick
notion of Wookiees mating. Period.
When the band was starting out they were having difficulties coming up with
the perfect name. Each member threw out various attempts none of which stuck.
During the band's first gig at the 2000 Hooter's Anniversary in
Merrillville, IN, the band began the day with the name "Wookie
Luv", which they had been using at various Jam Nights, for lack of
anything better. During the second set, it started raining....HARD!! The band
members were troopers and played through the rain.
After the show, they decided perhaps "The Rainmakers" would be a
decent name, and would have an explainable story behind it.
At the next Jam
Night, "friends of the band" were yelling for "Wookie Luv,"
and just didn't seem to take to "The Rainmakers." The band guesses
that it's because "Wookie" is just a fun word to yell out.
Therefore, in an effort to please the masses, "Wookie Luv" was
adopted as the official name, even though the band has a hard time explaining it
to their loved ones.
Plus it looks good on a sign, don't you think?
